8 simple organizing tips

Hi Mint Magnolia followers! I wanted to start sharing some reading content in hopes that it motivates you to start cleaning and organizing your own home. Or perhaps by reading this you realize that you need a professional to come get you started, whatever the case may be, here are 8 simple organizing tips to start doing today!

#1. One minute rule. If it takes 1 minute, do it right then and there. Wiping counters, tidying your couch, making your bed. That way you get it done and it is not saved for later when other things start adding up.

#2. Take a picture or video of the space you are working on. Sometimes we become blind to our own daily clutter. By taking a picture or video you will be seeing the space from a different perspective, showing you how things could look better or improve.

#3. Focus! Instead of multitasking we need to commit to hyper focus and finish what we started. For certain things it is great to be able to multitask, but in reality we sometimes do too much and we end up overwhelmed and not finishing what we started. Try focusing on that one thing form start to finish and you will be more productive.

#4. Define your space. Instead of expanding and adding to make more room for things, be intentional in what you are buying. The more you buy the more space you have to make for those items, most likely ending in more clutter.

#5. Go through your mail as soon as you get it. File, recycle and shred. This goes back to the one minute rule. The longer you wait, the more you will have to go through later likely making you feel overwhelmed.

#6. Ask yourself 3 questions before buying. Do I really need it? Do I have room for it? Will I use it? Many people use shopping as therapy, again, practice being intentional with what you are buying, this will limit the amount of clutter that you bring in your home.

#7. You don’t have to spend a ton of money of containers. There are some quality baskets and containers at Walmart, Target 5 dollar section and even the Dollar Tree!

#8.Get your kids involved! Teach your children to pick up after themselves. Some parent frown at the thought of telling their small kids to pick up after themselves after a day of play, but think of it as teaching them responsibilities. These are valuable lessons they can apply the rest of their lives.
